OPAL FARE HIKE WILL MAKE BONDI HARDER TO GET TO
Bondi beachgoers from the more remote parts of Sydney will be hard hit by a proposed increase to Opal Card fares in July, should the Baird government decide to adopt them.
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal has proposed an end to free travel after eight journeys and tougher rules for the Gold Opal Card.
Beachgoers who commute to Bondi will be disproportionately affected by the proposed fare increases, says the NRMA.
It has raised concerns that this and a proposal to raise the travel-fare-cap on weekends will force commuters to drive instead of using public transport, further clogging Sydney’s congested roads.
