BONDI’S UNDERWATER SHARK SPY
A sonar shark-detection buoy has been installed at Bondi Beach on a 30-day trial of an innovative shark-attack-prevention technology.
The buoy can detect and identify any underwater creature bigger than two metres and send a warning message via satellite to the lifeguard station at Bondi Beach. The lifeguards would then activate the beach’s shark alarm.
It is, reported the Daily Telegraph, the “holy grail” of warning swimmers of potentially dangerous predators.
Called “the Clever Buoy”, if it works, the trial may be extended and expanded to other beaches along the NSW coast.
