BONDI BEACH COMES HOME – TO BONDI BEACH
Not long before his death in 1992 in a Thirroul motel from a drugs overdose, artist Brett Whiteley painted a huge, six-panel collage entitled “Bondi Beach.”
The collage has been sold by Brett’s widow, Wendy, for an undisclosed sum which the purchaser, luxury cart and art dealer Steven Nasteski says is more than the highest price ever paid for a painting by an Australia artist, more than the $5.4-million paid in 2010 for Sidney Nolan’s “First Class Marksman.”
The 730cm long collage, the SMH reports, now graces the entrance hall of Steven’s luxury apartment in Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach, just across the road from the iconic beach itself.[ General ]
