DOVER HEIGHTS FIREWORKS FURORE

Residents within sight and sound of the Dudley Page Reserve in Military Road Dover Heights are up in arms about Waverley Council’s decision to grant permission for a gala New Year’s “Fireworks” Party to be held there from 5pm on December 31.

The Council’s website is apparently promoting, if not sponsoring, the event: “Bring a picnic rug and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and incredible views with family and friends at Dudley Page Reserve. There'll be jumping castles, food stalls, face painting, laid back entertainment and a licensed bar.”

(The traditional New Year’s event used to be staged at Bondi Beach, where there was ample transport, parking and police presence.)

One long-time resident told The Bondi Daily: “This is the craziest thing the council has ever done. We’ll have drunken hoons driving around trying to find parking places in streets where there is already no parking. This is madness of a high order.”
