FISHERMEN RESCUED AT THE GAP
Water Police had to rescue five fishermen at the Gap after their boat was swamped in a heavy swell, and they had to cling to the rocks until help came.
The Gap is a notoriously perilous place, and was the site of one of the worst maritime disasters in Australian hist, when in 1857 the sailing ship Dunbar mistook it for the entrance to Sydney Harbour and was wrecked with the loss of 121 lives (there was only one survivor).
(The Gap is not, of course, at Bondi, but it is in The Bondi Daily’s catchment area.)
The five fishermen were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment for minor cuts and abrasions.
