TAKE ME TO ALEXANDRIA, BONDI
Bondi is, most of its residents will be surprised to learn, in Alexandria.
That is the subdivision of Greater Sydney that covers the local government areas of Waverley and Woollahra. On legal documents, Bondi is officially in the Parish of Alexandria in the County of Cumberland.
Sydney is broken up, for land-titles purposes, into 57 parishes (that’s what you will find on your title deeds), and Bondi’s parish was given the name “Alexandria”.
Bondi’s Alexandria parish is named after the Battle of Alexandria, a little-known battle (also called the Battle of Canole) in Egypt between the British and the French Revolutionary army in 1801 (the British won – hence the name of Bondi’s parish).
